Android took a record market share of smartphones – Ferra

Strategy Analytics conducted a study of the smartphone market and came to the conclusion that in the third quarter of 2016, the year the total number of shipped gadgets increased by 6% compared to the same period of 2015. In specific terms, this 375,4 million units.

it is noted that particularly well “grew” phones running on the Android operating system. They were put on the market number 328,6 million, equivalent to 87.5% of the total market. For comparison, in 2015, the figure was slightly less impressive 84%. The current figure is the highest for the entire history of observations. Android is the real king of the hill, slipping from the pedestal which in the short term is unlikely to succeed.

iPhone, on the contrary, “falling”. In the global value share declined from 13.6% to 12.1%. And in the third quarter Apple has sent out to the shops just to 45.5 million units, 5.2% less than in the same period last year.

by the Way, the drop in the shipments of smartphones on other operating systems is simply incredible — in the third quarter of 2016, the market appeared only 1.3 million additional units vs. 8.2 million for the same period in 2015. Which corresponds to a market share of 0.3% vs 2.3%.
