About a month ago, Google’s published new requirements for all manufacturers of mobile devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The essence of the requirements was the need to enable encryption of user data by default in all devices based on the new version of the system. Now the developer of потребовала from manufacturers to ensure safe release of all devices with a new version of the OS, in fact forcing manufacturers to implement this functionality or to refuse the new system.
When it on Google did not limit development to certain specifications. Each company is free to implement the soft-reset on its own. It is noted that this function should not only remove the data on a logical, but physically. In their demands Google refers to the industry standard NIST SP800-88.
Those manufacturers who refuse to comply with the conditions will be denied permission to use the services of the company.
Unfortunately not reported how it should be implemented by removing the information. The bottom line is that all mobile devices are based on flash memory modules, for which the actual parameter is depreciation, or – the number of write cycles. If you implement the physical removal of data due to the “mashing” zeros, which is a regular method of deep cleaning of hard drives, the question arises of how this will affect the working memory.
If it is not excluded that some companies whose smartphones and tablets may not work on a pure Android 6.0 Marshmallow, as, for example, on Cyanogenmod, will ignore such demands. Previously, we recall, Cyanogenmod developers said they wanted to give up Google services in favor of programs from Microsoft.
