Android took the lead in the tablet market with iPad - Russian Newspaper

The global market for the supply of tablet PCs continues to show steady growth rate. According to preliminary data, which results in its report IDC, in the first quarter of 2013 the market under consideration has increased by 142.4% when compared to last year. According to analysts, for the period vendors put on the market a total of 49.2 million units, “tablet” and it’s more than what was delivered for the first half of 2012.

Regarding indicators leading vendors in the market supply in the segment of “tablet” in the first quarter of 2013, the top five are as follows: the leader Apple, whose shipments “tablet” in the first quarter of 2013 is estimated at 19.5 million units, while the a market share of 39.6%. In second place is Samsung, shipments “tablets” from this manufacturer in the first quarter of 2013 was 8.8 million units and a market share estimated at 17.9%. Compared with last year, this Samsung has increased its rates by 282,6%.

Third place went to Asus, its performance in the reporting period, it follows: shipments of 2.7 million units, the market share of 5.5% and an increase compared to last year’s 350%. Fourth place in the following period is Amazon.com, whose shipments for the quarter was 1.8 million units and a market share estimated at 3.7%. At Amazon.com increase to the previous year is 157,1%.

The top five – Microsoft, whose shipments in the first quarter of 2013 was 0.9 million units, while the share of the market is estimated at 1.8%. Analysts note that the vendor Microsoft first entered the “top five” leaders in the supply of “tablet”. Volumes of supplies of “tablet” Surface RT and Surface Pro this vendor, as already noted, were collectively the order of 0.9 million units. A significant part of the supply made “tablet” Surface Pro, which the company began shipping in the U.S. and Canada in February of this year. It is also noted that in addition to direct line of devices Surface, “plates” on the basis of Windows 8 and Windows RT continue to fight for market share. Total volume of “tablets” running Windows 8 and Windows RT, put all the vendors exceeded 1.8 million units devices.

The remaining vendors accounted for the quarter from 15.5 million units units in shipments and 31.5% of the market.

According to research IDC, in terms of operating systems, based on which devices work, is leading Android. In the first quarter of 2013, the market was supplied 27.8 million units, “tablet” based on the Linux operating system (56.5% market share).

In second place is iOS, the volume of supply “plates” on the basis of this operating system is 19.5 million units (39.6% market share). The third was the operating system Windows, – all on the market was supplied 1.6 million units of tablets with the OS. This is followed by Windows RT with 0.2 million “tablets.” Other operating systems have occupied 0.2% of the market in the first quarter – is the order of 0.1 million units.
