The audience of users of Android is very fragmented, according to The Daily Dot, citing data from survey conducted by Google. This is reflected in the fact that the latest version of the mobile operating system 5.0 and 5.1 are installed only 12.4 percent of the smartphone.
The vast majority of users, nearly 81 percent, use different varieties of the fourth generation of Android – Ice Cream Sandwich and KitKat. About six percent of owners of Android-smartphone have gadgets based versions 2.x.
For comparison – the latest version of iOS installed on their iPhone and iPad users, 63 per cent of apple gadgets. At the same time, the latest version of Android 5.1 is installed on only 0.8 percent of smart phones, despite the fact that since its release has been almost three months.
The Daily Dot considers the situation “a huge problem” and believes that the vast majority of owners of Android smartphones will never be able to install Android 5.1 and later.
